Disc Golf

While randomly browsing Airbnb experiences, we came across this unique experience that sounded very interesting, a 2 hour session with a disc golf pro from Alabama. It’s just something we had to try!

We promptly booked the experience and met Damian a few days later at the entrance to Dorohozhychi metro station. All we needed to bring was ourselves, a bottle of water to quench our thirst in the hot weather and an enthusiasm to try something new.

From the metro we walked together to a local park and Damian introduced himself along with the sport and the basic rules. The rules are actually very similar to actual golf including different discs for different shots and distances. There are a variety of different throwing styles which we attempted to master as Damian moved the basket further and further away.

Once we had mastered the basics, Damian took us further into the park and set up a interesting “hole” for us which involved throwing from a hill, avoiding trees and other obstacles and we began to start scoring. Finally, we went to an open space to practice distance throwing while continuing to score and compete against each other.

Damian’s aim is to raise awareness of the sport in Ukraine with the idea of setting up a permanent course somewhere in the city. We hope you will try your hand at this sport and support his cause. We’re sure you’ll enjoy it as much as we did!
