Zhytomyr

Only 90 minutes from Kyiv is Zhytomyr, full of history and the home to all things space in Ukraine. It's the same road out of the city as the ostrich farm, so you can stop off on the way, and if it's the space museums you're after, Pereiaslav has another one about 90km out on the other side of the city. Unlike Chernobyl you can do this one under your own steam.

Zhytomyr is also the first sensible stop if you are driving the M06 all the way west rather than turning back. Keep going and Dubno Castle is around three hours further on, with Olesko another ninety minutes beyond that.
