A great day out for all the family at this outdoor museum celebrating the best of Ukrainian and international aircraft design.

Top Tip

Look out for the "Old Car Land" event which takes place at the museum twice a year

Located near Zhuliany International Airport, the state aviation museum first opened in 2013 with only 30 aircraft, but now boasts well over 90 planes and helicopters. Once inside you are free to roam around and look at the different exhibitions which are mostly outdoors. Each plane has an information board in front of it, and you can find the same information on their web site, also in English.

There are planes from around 10 different manufacturers that are mostly Ukrainian/Russian which makes it a lot more interesting as some of the planes are very unique in style with engines on top of the wings or Concorde style passenger jets which you won’t see anywhere else in the world.

There’s a large variety of military, cargo and passenger jets alongside some rather large helicopters and on most days, you can also go inside 6 of the cockpits at no extra charge and take photos.

Because of its location next to the working airport, you’ll get great views of the Wizz Air and other airlines taking off and landing too as the runway is less than 100 metres away.

A special event in the museum’s calendar is an event called “Old Car Land”. Twice a year they open their doors and hundreds of classic cars and bikes take over the museum and park between the aircraft. Coupled with food and drink stalls, and various entertainment, it really is a great day out and highly recommended.
