State Aviation Museum

Located near Zhuliany International Airport, the state aviation museum first opened in 2003 with only 30 aircraft, but now boasts well over 90 planes and helicopters. Once inside you are free to roam around and look at the different exhibitions which are mostly outdoors. Each plane has an information board in front of it, and you can find the same information on their web site, also in English.

There are planes from around 10 different manufacturers that are mostly Ukrainian/Russian which makes it a lot more interesting as some of the planes are unique in style, with engines on top of the wings, or Concorde-style passenger jets which you won’t see anywhere else in the world.

There’s a large variety of military, cargo and passenger jets alongside some rather large helicopters and on most days, you can also go inside 6 of the cockpits at no extra charge and take photos. If you wanted aircraft that still fly, the hangar tour at Boryspil used to take you round the maintenance base instead, but that stopped with the airport in 2022.

The runway is less than 100 metres away, so you used to get great views of Wizz Air and other airlines taking off and landing too, but there hasn't been a passenger flight out of Zhuliany since February 2022.

A special event in the museum’s calendar used to be “Old Car Land”, when hundreds of classic cars and bikes took over the museum and parked between the aircraft. These days it's held at the Kolesa Istorii (Wheels of History) car museum on Malynska Street instead, where the 2026 spring show was on 2 and 3 May.

Andersen, which brews its own beer, is a couple of kilometres away in Holosiivskyi if you want feeding afterwards.
