The Ukrainian State Museum Of The Great Patriotic War

18 galleries of Second World War history in the hillside directly under the Motherland Monument, with tanks and aircraft outside. Closed on Mondays.

Mezhyhirya Residence

The 140 hectare estate former president Viktor Yanukovych built for himself, now open as a museum. Marshrutkas run direct from Heroiv Dnipra metro.

Motherland Monument

A 102 metre stainless steel statue standing over the war museum, visible from most of the left bank. If you're fit enough you can climb up inside her arm to the shield.

Kyiv Fortress

The largest earthwork fortress in Europe, hidden behind the Olympic Stadium. Most people walk past without realising it's there.

Golden Gate

One of the few surviving pieces of Kyivan Rus, dating from 1037. Come out of Zoloti Vorota metro and it's right in front of you.

Pirogovo (Pyrohiv) Open-Air Museum

Over 300 traditional buildings brought here from all over Ukraine and rebuilt on a hillside outside the city. Marshrutka 507 goes direct from Teremky.

Pereiaslav Space Church

A 130 year old church housing a unique space museum, not far from Kyiv.
